What harmonica should I buy?
The lessons are designed for diatonic and chromatic harmonica players. I would recommend you to get both models and discover which one suits your taste. Brands such as Hohner, Seydel and Suzuki are my favorites. If you are a beginner I recommend to buy either a Hohner Special 20 in C or a chromatic harmonica Suzuki SCX 48 in C. Check out our gear lists for more recommendations!
Do you teach total beginner?
Yes! Students begin with the fundamentals of learning the harmonica and developing good practice habits. Emphasizing on breathing, single note techniques and bending, students also learn sight-reading skills and music theory.
What styles of music do you teach?
The harmonica is a versatile and popular among many types. All genres of music, folk, blues, country, rock, jazz and classical can be played. As you can see in my bio, my tastes are eclectic and I love to explore different aspects of the music world with my student.
Do I need to be able to read music to play harmonica?
No but we can teach you how to. We mostly provide a system for notating harmonica music called "tabs". For example a circle around a number means breathing in, draw in hole 5 is written: (5).
Do you teach kids?
I believe learning harmonica should be fun, creative, flexible and educational. For those new to music, harmonica is an excellent start as it is one of the easiest instruments to play. It helps children to focus and develop their attention through exposure to music. I present the lesson in a very accessible way and encourage them to explore the many possibilities of the instrument. In addition, they learn fundamental music skills and simple songs.
Is it easy to learn the harmonica?
The diatonic harmonica is probably one of the easier instruments to play among the reed family and it’s really a lot of fun. But to get a decent sound, it will take a bit of practice.
